🌳 With great sensitivity and gentleness, Béatrice Le Roux is a forest therapy guide in Toulouse, France. Her business, Esprit Nature, reflects the light and delicacy of the sessions she offers to individuals and organisations. Guided immersion, sensory walks and contemplative walking all become opportunities for wonder and connection with Béatrice.

I had the pleasure of training Béatrice in Forest Therapy and Plant Consciousness in autumn 2022 in Nantes, western France, and I’m delighted to share our conversation with you today.

Forest Therapy Interview with Béatrice Le Roux

CR: Thank you so much, Béatrice, for agreeing to this interview. Could you tell us what brought you to forest therapy?

BLR: I’m originally from the Tarn region. I was born in Mazamet, in the heart of the Montagne Noire, and I have wonderful memories of forest walks with my grandmother, who passed on her love of Nature to me.

During the Covid lockdowns, I realised more and more how deeply I needed to reconnect with Nature.

On my walks I began to stop, settle into the silence among the trees and listen to birdsong…

I was simply in contemplation and wonder.

And then the Trees came to me!

I moved closer to them. I felt strength, a call, a desire to place my hands against the bark and feel the energy I experienced in contact with the tree.

I later took part in a forest bathing experience in Brittany. It was a revelation and gave me the desire to share this relationship with trees with others too.

CR: You lead forest outings around Toulouse and Castanet-Tolosan. Would you share some of your favourite places with us?

BLR: I have several places around me. Two forests where I offer forest bathing sessions are Buzet and Bouconne.

I’ve also found smaller places that aren’t large forests at all: little paths, sometimes a stream, a clearing… and of course, trees!

It might also be along the Ariège River, around a lake or in a park.

In those places I offer Nature Baths, including at Le Petit Bois in Quint-Fonsegrives, which I experience as a magical place where you can feel the energy of the trees.

CR: Your photos are always full of delicacy and poetry. You feel a little like a woodland fairy! How do you help participants connect with trees and the wonders of the plant world?

BLR : During a two-hour walk at a very slow pace, punctuated with sensory activities, creative exercises and contemplation, I guide people towards our tree companions and offer them a gentle pause, a chance to let go and reconnect with themselves.

CR: It’s the beginning of the warmer season and a busy time for forest walks. What will you be offering participants this year?

BLR: I notice during my sessions that activities evolve with each place and especially with the changing seasons. It is always a discovery for me too.

I imagined some new games over the winter… come and discover them!

CR: Creativity has a big place in your forest therapy practice—from gift cards made with moss and leaves to land art during your nature walks. The plant world clearly inspires you. What would you suggest to readers who would like to develop their own creativity with plants?

BLR: I really do love proposing creative activities with the plant world. It is an endless form of expression where everyone can free their sensitivity, imagination and emotions.

Whether outdoors or at home—like me when I create gift cards with natural materials—have fun, enjoy yourself, be inventive!

CR: Last question: if you could reincarnate as a tree, which one would you choose and why?

BLR: The willow, with its long branches and tear-shaped leaves. I can take refuge beneath it, shelter there and entrust it with my worries.

It brings me inner peace and calm, helping me move forward in life.

Vitality and Renewal: those are two words that resonate deeply with me.

Every tree brings a different quality of experience, so don’t hesitate to draw closer to these living beings.

Thank you so much, Béatrice, for answering my questions. I’m truly honoured by your trust.
